This historiographical course explores the major scholarships, both old and new, in British and American civilization, including the variety of specialties within the field. It is designed to provide students with insights into the most influencial historical studies and familiarize them with appropriate methods in historical research. A second purpose is to expose students to a variety of approaches to historical writing either, topically, stylistically, conceptually, or methodologically. Book reports will help students to know what the work of others is about and, ultimately, to write their own Memoire.

Discourse analysis is concerned with uncovering how communication works in real life – from everyday conversations to media messages. We dissect texts, paying attention to language choices, context, and power dynamics, to reveal deeper meanings and social structures. It's not just about what is said, but how it's said, and what it implies about society and human interaction. By the end of the course, you will be able to you'll be able to critically analyse various texts employing diverse methodologies.
