Writing
a
scientific
and/or technical
paper,
such
as a report or a dissertation in computer science, requires
specific
qualities.
In this
course,
we
present
the fundamental
elements
of scientific writing as the bibliography,
structure, content, style and presentation.
The objective of this course is
to provide student
with
a method
and principles
to improve scientific writing.
These
principles
are illustrated
by counter-examples
to help identify
mistakes
and examples
to correct them.
The problem
of plagiarism
is
also covered with many methods to overcome this serious challenges.
The different
stages of writing
are covered:
the organization
of ideas,
the writing
itself
and the final proofreading.
Since
a written
work
is
often
accompanied
by an oral presentation,
we
offer
some
advice
concerning
the presentation
of a scientific
and/or technical
work
in public.
